It's that time of year again and I'm gearing up for the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show. As usual I'll be taking my lovely fiance/photographer Alana with me and we'll do our best to blog each day of the show.
March is a particularly interesting show because many producers will have processed their winter harvests and hopefully will have some new and exciting pearls on offer. Typically farms in the northern hemisphere will plan to harvest in the winter. The colder weather encourages the mollusks to produce nacre at a slower rate then during warmer periods. This is important because when nacre is secreted slower it tends to produce a prettier pearl. In other words, we get first crack at the best new pearls of the season.
Last March we were lucky enough to debut a new quality of Freshwater ripple pearl - something I dubbed "
Holy Grail ripples". I would have never predicted we'd see a strand of pearls quite like these, so who knows what we'll see this time around.

With that said I'm putting together my customer wish list, so if there is anything you'd like me to personally hunt down for you, please do not hesitate to email me directly
kevin@pearlsofjoy.com.
If you send me a request you're not obligated to buy anything, but it does guarantee I'll spend some time at the show looking for the perfect pearl(s) for you.
p.s. - Do yourself a favor and sign up for our blog updates(green box to the right hand side of this post). Normally when I return I offer up the most exciting pearls to blog readers first. It only takes 2 seconds and you can unsubscribe at any time.
